Before you go

Where can I book my tour?

You can book a Craicin tour through our website, by email or you can also do it over the phone. We will also be introducing Craicin Tours bookings throughout various hotels and tourist information centres.

Do I need to book a tour in advance? 

You should book as early as possible to secure a place as the tours sell out fast and you wouldn’t want to miss a Craicin day out but we do accept bookings up to the day before departure on most of our tours if there’s any space left. 

Are tours available all year round?

Yes we operate tours all year round, however there are less options and some of the tours need to be adjusted for winter opening hours but Scotland in the winter is absolutely stunning with snow on the hills and frost in the fields, it is a winter wonderland. We very much recommend visiting Scotland in the winter. Have a look at our Gallery for some winter pictures. 

What is the maximum number of people that can go on any one tour?

The Craicin bus can take up to 16 guests so a comfortable amount of people and with the bus being smaller than bigger coaches we can come off the beaten path and visit hidden gems.

What is the minimum number of passengers to allow the tour to run?

The minimum number of passengers necessary for a tour to operate is 6. This helps to minimise our impact on the environment. On the rare occasion a tour you have booked doesn’t meet the minimum requirements, we can transfer you to another tour of your choice for no extra cost and if that doesn’t suit we will give you a full refund.

Can I bring my child/children on the tour?

We don’t carry children under the age of five on our scheduled tours. Children under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult. You can ask us about the tours we recommend for younger children. And if your child is less than 1.35m tall, you should let us know in advance so we can provide them with a suitable booster seat.

Is there an age limit for your tours?

Yes. From five years, we take passengers of all ages above five. Get in touch If you wish to enquire about the physical demands of particular tours. Most tours are quite relaxed. 

Do you offer concession prices?

Yes we do, we have got some Craicin prices, any students at School or university, Seniors over 60 and children between 5 and 15 years young will get a concession price. 

Do I need a visa to go on a Craicin Tour? 

This depends on your country of citizenship and where you’re visiting. You can find up-to-date and reliable information on the official tourism website of the country you’re visiting, or from their embassy or consulate. To find out whether you require a visa to travel within the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) see here. Visa applications take time, so organise this ahead of your departure date. Also remember to double check your passport’s expiry date. 

Do I need travel Insurance? 

Yes, we would advise travel insurance when travelling overseas. 

How does the accommodation work? 

Your tour excludes accommodation*; but when you book, you can ask us to reserve local accommodation for you, or you can choose to reserve your own accommodation in the overnight locations. 

I want Craicin Tours to book my accommodation, what happens now? 

Once you’ve booked your tour, we’ll reserve all your accommodation, and your driver will drop you off with your hosts . We’ll reserve your room(s) with one of our preferred accommodation suppliers and you’ll pay them directly when you check-in. Most accommodation hosts don’t accept credit cards, so be prepared to pay cash. You won’t be able to choose which Hotel/B&B you stay in, but we will confirm the named property and exact prices on your first day of tour. If it’s important for you to know where you’re going to be staying in advance, or if you want to stay in a specific Hotel/B&B, we recommend that you select the option to book your own accommodation. Due to availability, we may not be able to reserve your first choice of accommodation. When this happens, we’ll book your second choice, and If there are any further issues with availability and pricing, we’ll contact you.

If I wish to book my own accommodation is there anything I need to know?Once you’ve booked your accommodation, you’ll need to contact us at with your accommodation details. Please, only reserve accommodation within the overnight towns that your tour stops in. And if you’re unsure, please check with us first. Your driver will drop you off at your chosen accommodation as long as it’s relatively central.

Is there flexibility to change my tour? 

You can transfer to another tour if there is availability, as long as the request to do so is outside the tour cancellation period. You must inform us by email. We won’t charge a fee for this, but you will pay the difference if the new tour cost is higher. 

What are your cancellation policies? 

We have a cancellation period of 48 hours for our one day tours, 15 days for two day tours. If cancelled outside this period, we’ll give you a full refund minus a 10% admin charge. If you cancel inside this period, refunds are at our discretion. 

What languages are your tours in?

All of our tours are delivered in clear English. 

Do you cater for people with reduced mobility? 

Our tours often include short walks on uneven ground at times. Your trip may also visit historical sites with access restrictions. All the attractions are optional, so you’re welcome to do as much or as little as you want to. So we can ensure you’re comfortable travelling with us, let us know about any special requirements or needs at the time of booking.

How much luggage can I take with me? 

You’re restricted to either 14kg (31lbs) or 20kg (44lbs) of luggage per person on our tours. We wish we could let you carry more, but this is a legal requirement in place for your safety. We can refuse to carry luggage over these limits.

Where is the departure point?

The Glasgow departure and drop off point is outside The Citizen M hotel at 60 Renfrew Street, Glasgow, G2 3BW. A short walk from Buchanan bus station in the centre of Glasgow.

When should I get to the departure point?

Arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. Due to waiting restrictions, our tours can’t wait for you if you’re late.

Do you offer hotel pickups?

We only pick up from the departure point stated on your confirmation email. ` This allows us to leave the city via the most direct route and reduce our carbon footprint.

Is there parking close to the departure point?

We don’t recommend bringing a car to your departure point. There is parking in the city centre but it is quite expensive, it’s usually very busy and hard to find parking spaces. You would be better jumping in a taxi or on a bus and meeting us at the pick up destination.

What documentation should I bring with me to check in for my tour?

After you book a trip with us, we send you a confirmation email. Please take an electronic version or a print out of this to your departure point.

What happens if I am late or miss my tour?

If you’re late for your tour 100% charges are applicable and you will not be entitled to a refund or alternative..

How big are your mini-coaches?

Our mini-coaches comfortably seat 16 passengers.

Can I pre-book a specific seat?

No, you cannot pre-book a seat on the bus because of logistical reasons.

Are their toilets on your mini-coach?

Unfortunately, we have no on-board toilet facilities, but your driver-guide will make regular comfort breaks.

Can I take food or drinks onto the mini-coach?

Hot drinks can be taken onto the mini-coaches as long as they’re secured with a lid. Drink bottles are also allowed. Cold food can be taken onto the bus.

Is there free WiFi on your mini-coaches?

We don’t provide WiFi on our mini-coaches. This is a chance for you to take in the magnificent Scottish scenery with no distractions.

Do your driver-guides use microphones?

Yes, you will be able to hear your driver-guide loud and clear even if you are sitting at the back of the bus.

During your tour

You will have plenty of opportunities to get off the mini-coach and go exploring. You will have a good amount of time to take photos, go walking, and explore ancient ruins and attractions.

No you pay into the attraction’s separately when you arrive. The reason for this is that if you don’t want to do a particular attraction you are free to skip it and do your own thing like explore and go for a walk or whatever it is you feel like doing. You are better to have cash and card to make payments. Most places will accept both but some do only accept cash.

Yes, that is not a problem, this is why we do not charge you entrance fees to attractions, it is to give you the freedom to make the tour your own and do the tour how you please.

Multi-day tours

They have an intense passion for Scotland, they want to show you the country that they call home and they will tell you stories and play Scottish music throughout the tour. They want to make you love their country as much as they do. They are full of info and they are full of laughs. They will also let you have some time just to take in the scenery in silence so that you hear nothing but the Scottish nature. It is a beautiful sound.
